Garden Tour in Store

So sad to say… this event has been cancelled due to uncontrollable circumstance. It would have been a fun affair as so much was arranged and prepared. Everybody loves a garden party, right?

Below is the promotional information for the HANCI Intergenerational Garden Tour. The Garden Club of Niagara is helping to sponsor the event which will be held July 16, 2011 during the Historic Niagara Falls Garden Walk.

The creative women of the Garden Club of Niagara are very grateful to the HANCI Agency for generously allowing us the use of the agency for our meetings. It has worked out so well for our craft demonstrations and learning sessions, so to give back, the women decided to ask for permission to open the garden for the Garden Walk. Then with the Agency, the idea was expanded into having a larger and more fun event.

Additionally, we have asked for some gardening help from our Master Gardener friends. We are planting new perennials in the garden to restore the garden after the construction of the atrium. Last year, the paving was restored and some of the trees and shrubs relocated. This year, with the help from donations, we are planning to get the garden in great shape for the summer event.

We have contacted vendors and crafts people to set up displays both inside the facility and outside in the garden. We asked the Master Gardeners to be on hand to answer gardening questions and hold a plant sale.  There will be food, drink and music. And there will fun. The women are throwing a bake sale to raise proceeds for the HANCI agency and are encouraging donors to aid in all the Agencies worthwhile projects and endeavors.

And we are keeping a few surprises. No visitor will be disappointed.

Here is the garden description…

A patch of heaven right in the City of Niagara Falls … that’s the HANCI Intergenerational Garden, 1302 Main Street, Niagara Falls, NY. Come and enjoy a festive day in this beautiful setting, complete with free consultations with Master Gardeners, along with a plant sale, food and drink sales, craft booths, a vendor fair and music. The garden is open Saturday, July 16, 2011, from 11 am. to 4 pm. and there is no entrance fee. Helping to sponsor the event is the Garden Club of Niagara.

Created in 1998 on the former site of an abandoned gas station, the HANCI Garden is a fenced pocket park in the midst of an urban business district. The garden is used mostly by children and older adults who participate in the programs of the Health Association of Niagara County, Inc. (HANCI), a nonprofit agency located in the building next door. HANCI created the garden through the generosity of many donors and volunteers.

In 2010, a beautiful glass atrium was built to connect the HANCI campus to the garden. The atrium will be primarily used by participants of Complete Senior Care, a program being launched by HANCI in 2011 to provide comprehensive services to keep frail elders living at home instead of going into nursing homes. Complete Senior Care participants will participate in daytime programs at the HANCI site, and the 1,100-square foot atrium will allow them to enjoy the garden year-round. And after you visit HANCI, be sure and see the Historic Niagara Falls Garden Walk, all along Main Street. For more information on HANCI, please see the website at,

  1. Wish I could come…too far….seems like lots of fun!

  2. Dear Donna, What a lovely project! Maybe one day, when I visit Niagra Falls … P.x

  3. One says:

It’s been almost 2 decades since I was there last. I am sure things have changed tremendously. I remember there was a greenhouse plus boat rides that gets everyone wet even with raincoats on. I was visiting the Canada side of Niagara Falls. So it must be different too.

  4. What a wonderful way to give back! HANCI has a great mission and I think it is wonderful that the gardening community is involved too! I hope the event has a great turnout!

  5. Maryann says:

Thank you for the information. The date is on my calendar!
I’m looking forward to it! What a fascinating project.

  6. This is very enterprising Donna and sounds like a wonderful event. I assume you’ll be putting up your blogging friends from afar who want to attend 😉
